A Welcome From the Founder and Executive Director Mvula Ka Mnisi
Dear Supporters, Staff, Beneficiaries, Families and Friends
Welcome to Sun of Joy Foundation website, where you’ll find a wealth of information and resources about Sun of Joy Foundation and the work we do to serve Men & Boys, OVC, Youth, Women and a Girl Child in Gauteng and Mpumalanga Provinces. Whether you’ve been connected to Sun of Joy Foundation for many years or are encountering our organization for the first time, I thank you for taking a moment to visit us online.
This is a great and a heartfelt and an exciting time at Sun of Joy Foundation. Since I conceived the vision in 1996 and its establishment in 2000 and registration in 2003, I have been witnessing first-hand the dedication, commitment and innovation that set apart the Comprehensive Developmental Programme of SJF’s staff and programming. Our Men and Boys Peer Education Programme became a springboard for all other programmes, i.e. Gender Based Violence Programm, ‘’I AM MY BROTHER’S KEEPER-COUNT ME IN 365/6 DAYS A YEAR -AGAINST THE ABUSE OF WOMEN, CHILDREN AND MEN”
Our Community Programmes: The After School Care, Food Security,Life Skills and Mentoring and Coaching, Substance Abuse Awareness Programmes have been so effective and through these initiatives , we were able to reach more than 50 000 beneficiaries in our 2014/15 financial year.
On the 18-21 March 2015, we successfully hosted a Mpumalanga Provincial Men Summit at Indalo Hotel and Conference Centre at Badplaas. The summit was attended by Men and Boys Civil Society organizations including Faith based organizations and131 delegates attended. A need was identified to establish Men and Boys structures in other parts of the Province. Three new SJF branches were launched in Tonga, Embalenhle and Ekangala/Bronkhorspruit and other branches are in the process of being launched.
In 2011 Sun of Joy won The SADC GENDER PROTOCOL AWARD in the Southern African Prevention of HIV/AIDS and Gender Based Violence Category in recognition and contribution in promoting the empowerment of women and ending gender violence. In 2015 again, during SADC GENDER PROTOCOL AWARD,SJF was a runner up in the SRHR/HIV & AIDS category in the South African National Summit hosted by GENDER LINKS.
The above AWARDS show cased our work and lesson learnt in the fight against poverty, HIV/AIDS and GBV and the importance of engaging men and boys as partners in the fight against HIV and GBV.
These are just three recent examples of achievements – the list of programs, services, outreach and advocacy being undertaken by our staff goes on and on.
We would like to thank our main funder , the Department of Health Mpumalanga Province for the Peer Education Programme for MEN AND BOYS in Gert Sibande District and the National Lottery Commission (NLC) for our After School Care and Poverty Alleviation Programmes in Gauteng Province (Cosmo City).
Feeling inspired already? There are so many ways to get involved. Considering volunteering or making a donation. Sign up for our email list, or consider attending our upcoming Men and Boys Summit in November 2015. We are grateful for your support.
We give all the Glory to the Almighty God Who made it possible for Sun of Joy Foundation to touch the lives of people in different programmes.
